Are you at risk of getting or having Mesothelioma?

Is there a possibility that you were exposed to asbestos and are at risk of having Mesothelioma?

There were, and still are, many products that contain asbestos. In the 1970's there were so many asbestos products used in household building materials.

  • Insulation
  • drywall compound
  • textured paint
  • pipe and furnace duct insulation
  • shingles
  • siding
  • millboard
  • flooring adhesive

These building materials are no longer manufactured using asbestos, although many of the products installed in the 1970's are still in place in some older homes. Asbestos fibers are only harmful if they become airborne and breathed, so unless your home is being remodeled, the chance of being exposed to asbestos is very small. If you are unsure whether your home contains asbestos, contact a professional who can safely take a sample to be tested.

Certain auto parts, such as brake pads, used to be manufactured out of asbestos, so auto mechanics could have been exposed to asbestos while changing brake pads.

Professions that may have been exposed to asbestos in the past include:
  • Auto mechanics
  • Masons
  • Carpenters
  • Firefighters
  • Shipyard workers
  • Mine workers
  • Servicemen
  • Construction
  • Insulation workers
  • Teachers
  • Gas station attendants
  • Textile workers
  • Merchant marines
  • Members of the Navy

Unbelievably, there are still products made using asbestos, but thankfully those products must be clearly labeled.
